    Seating depths

So I'm reloading for my 223 Ruger American. I don't have a chronograph yet. So with that said I'm reloading 62 gn fmj with 26gn of CFE with the OGIVE set at 1.78 with a grouping of .38 MOA. I wanna tweak the seating depth to see if I can get it tighter. Should I test at 100 thousands increments, moving the bullet foward and backward? My max Ogive is 1.885, wondering how much shorter I can go. I know I have to watch for over preasure, any input is greatly appreciated.

That is the best group I have heard of from an FMJ bullet.
You might be able to tweak it, but I think you will find that hard to beat.
Sounds like you have a great load right there, but you can tweak it if desired

I'd be tickled right to death with that load.

Just picked up a Savage model 10 today. Can't wait to try it out.

When I test for seating depth I usually go in .002” increments. I usually start with the bullet touching the lands and work backwards. With groups like you are shooting already, I wouldn’t go any farther with it, but if you have to you have to and I definitely understand that.

Hope Dave gets back to us...

I tried .223 depths from lands to minimum book specs on one rifle and couldn't get a group size or velocity difference, which would indicate seating depth
didn't affect pressure. I musta missed something.

It doesn’t always affect your velocity or accuracy. But it can.
